RR vs PBKS Match Scorecard: Royals Fall to Punjab Kings in Exciting Guwahati Showdown

RR vs PBKS Match Scorecard: Royals Fall to Punjab Kings in Exciting Guwahati Showdown

Rajasthan Royals Lost Match with 145/5

Home hero Riyan Parag put up a valiant fight top-scoring for Rajasthan Royals, contributing 48 runs off just 34 balls, but it wasn’t enough as Punjab Kings claimed a thrilling five-wicket victory at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.

Sam Curran, the Punjab Kings skipper, was unbeaten on 63 to lead his side to a second consecutive triumph in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at this venue. Avesh Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets each for the Rajasthan Royals.

Batting First:

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was joined by Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the opening over, with the latter marking his IPL debut. The pair reached 38/1 at the end of the powerplay, but the innings faced a challenging start.

The unyielding duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Riyan Parag then combined to score a crucial 50-run partnership, rebuilding the Royals’ faltering innings. Ashwin, who scored 28 off 19 deliveries, showcased a dynamic batting display with two sixes and two fours.

Despite Ashwin’s impressive contribution, it was Parag who held the fort for Rajasthan Royals with a top- scoring effort of 48 before being dismissed in the final over. The Royals set Punjab Kings a modest target of 145 for a win.

Batting second:

Sam Curran’s Heroics Lead Punjab Kings to Victory Against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024

Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings clashed yet again in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, with the former seeking to secure a win and maintain their position in the points table, while the latter aimed to continue their winning streak.

Match Overview

The Kings’ bowlers, Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar, put up a commendable performance in the beginning, bagging two wickets each, reducing Rajasthan Royals to 39/3 by the end of the powerplay. However, it was RR’s encounter with the judges, er, I mean the batsmen, who turned the game around.

Rajasthan Royals’ Disappointing Display

Trent Boult began the innings with a bang, claiming his sixth first-over wicket of IPL 2024. Avesh Khan followed suit, striking twice in the fifth over. Rajasthan Royals faced the daunting challenge of scoring 42 runs from the remaining five overs, a task that seemed insurmountable.

Chahal Shines for RR, but it was Not Enough

Yuzvendra Chahal, Rajasthan Royals’ mainstay, snatched a second wicket, taking his overall tally to 65, jointly equaling the team’s top wicket-taker Siddarth Trivedi. Despite their best efforts, the Royals fell just short, scoring only 144/9 in their 20 overs.

Curran’s Unflinching Leadership

Sam Curran, on the other hand, proved to be an inspiration for Punjab Kings as he anchored the chase. With Left-arm seamers like Boult and Avesh Khan controlling the Rajasthan batting line-up, Curran still managed to display stunning batting prowess. However, it was not just his 63-run unbeaten innings that led his team to victory; it was his unwavering leadership that steered Punjab Kings to their second consecutive win in Guwahati.
